CAYMUS VINEYARDS, NAPA VALLEY, GRACE FAMILY VINEYARD, CABERNET SAUVIGNON 1981 (3L)
Description
base of neck; broken wax capsule
This extremely rare bottle predates all other Grace Family wines. Planted using cuttings from the nearby famed Bosché vineyard, Grace Family Vineyards began as nothing more than a family hobby. In 1978, they brought the fruits of their first harvest over to Caymus Winery in the back of a station wagon. According to Grace Family's website, Charlie Wagner, who ran Caymus, tasted those grapes and exclaimed, "You know, Dick, this is damned fine fruit!" And thus, the Caymus "Grace Family Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon was born--Napa's first vineyard-designated wine.
