Joey made this year’s Noir exactly as he made the last four vintages. He started by choosing the very best fermenter of 2011 Colson Canyon grapes then made the wine exactly like our other Syrahs, with the exception that it was aged in 100% new French oak (rather than our usual neutral or 20% new oak) for 16 months (rather than our usual ten) . The result is a round, velvety wine brimming with notes of blackberries, purple plums, violets, chocolate and smoked meats. The new oak brings toasty notes of vanilla to the long and intriguing finish. A solid tannic structure promises true age ability. This wine can be enjoyed now or aged up to 15 years.

The 2011 Syrah Noir is one of the top Syrahs in the vintage and it has an almost northern Rhone-like feel in its dark fruits, caramelized meats, ground herbs, pepper and mint-driven bouquet. From a single plot in the Colson Canyon vineyard and aged in 50% new French oak, it packs tons of sweet fruit, no hard edges and beautiful purity of fruit into a full-bodied, concentrated Syrah that will continue to dish out loads of pleasure over the coming decade or more. The 2011 Syrah Noir is Syrah from Colson Canyon that spent 16 months in 100% new Seguin Moreau barrels. Waves of black fruit, spices, rosemary and sage hit the palate as the Syrah Noir shows off its irrepressible personality. The 2011 is a wine of pure texture, volume and power.
